An Insight into Attunement

Attuning means to sense the other’s needs and quickly match their frequency or their needs. A lot of us do this very naturally. Whether we do carry out the act of matching needs of people around us or do not, there is continuous sensing used. To sense and to attune to another, we use our internal energy.

While attuning to others makes us great caregivers and supporters, to attune non-stop, day by day, months, years depletes whatever inner sense of energy left.

And when you’re good at it, it becomes second nature. It’s your automatic way of being.

Without a break, we’ll find ourselves start to feel empty inside, unsure of what we really want, have no energy to do what we know is good for us, or being angry and resentful of all the attunement and giving you naturally do. You may have waves of up and down as all the good things you’re doing is only bringing you up to 0 from a negative depletion state.

This emptiness feeling also makes us not know what our own needs are. And not liking what we do anymore..

But understanding, that your strength of attunment has exhausted all energy within you is the first step,

 Recongnise it. Acknowledge it.

Acknowledge it with kindness and compassion.

You are good at attunement, that’s why you naturally do it.

And perhaps it’s time to attune back to yourself.

It does not mean cutting off your attunement and sensing of others.

It means going in and attuning, which you do best, to YOU first.

Seeing that you have used all your energy to attune to others all this while creates new awareness.

Your exhaustion, resentment or collapse is now understandable.

Some simple small ways of attuning back:

Doing 1 thing you love and being aware you’re doing this for your own self to feed you. It can be putting on a piece of music you love or having an image of nature, anything that uses one of your senses to feed back.

Having someone else attune back to you. Ask them to MEET YOU WHERE YOU ARE with kindness and openness.

A friend, a pet, another being. Even if just once or twice, you’ll see the difference and the growing of self attunement back to you.

Be aware of how much you have been attuning out to others during the day, and be mindful of the need to attune back to YOURSELF.

Just this self awareness will give you your ability to center back to you again.
